Longstanding advisors to patients affected by unnecessary long-term chemotherapy treatments in Coventry & Warwickshire

AuthorsFiona TinsleyBecky Addison

Hospital corridor blurred

Our specialist chemotherapy negligence solicitors Fiona Tinsley and Becky Addison are busy supporting tens of patients who’ve been affected by unnecessary prolonged temozolomide (TMZ) chemotherapy treatments at the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust — some for longer than 14 years. These cases involve individuals with brain and spinal tumours.

We’re the only solicitors to have been working on these cases — and very closely with the Trust and its solicitors — since April 2024. This has given us a significant amount of in-depth knowledge into the practices of Professor Ian Brown — the doctor who administered these negligent treatments — as well as internal processes within the Trust.

We’ve also been speaking with the BBC about this case and the significant toll that this treatment has taken on our clients.

This means that we’re best placed to support anyone who has been affected from both a legal and personal perspective and secure the justice and accountability that they truly deserve.

Our longstanding history and involvement in this case

We initially referred Professor Ian Brown to the General Medical Council (GMC) and remain in close contact to keep the GMC informed of the latest developments.

We also reported clinical nurse specialist Ian Edwards — a close colleague of Professor Ian Brown — to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the UK regulator for those professions.

We further reported the Trust to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and remain in close contact. The CQC has confirmed that it’s investigating this case.

Following close discussions with the Trust and its legal team, we now support that the Trust has commissioned the Royal College of Physicians to audit of some of Professor Ian Brown’s cases. Our hope is that this will lead to a wider (and much needed) external review.

What to do if you’ve been affected

We’re committed to ensuring that all patients and families in this case seek accountability and have access to justice and financial compensation, as well as the emotional support that they and their families need at this time. That’s why we’re meeting every single patient face to face — no matter where they’re located — to hear their stories and provide the best possible advice.

By investigating and pursuing these claims under a ‘no win, no fee’ agreement, we ensure that you won’t need to pay any upfront cost for us to look into your claim.

We understand that the negligence that has occurred here hasn’t only affected people’s physical and mental health but also their relationships, family lives, livelihoods, career progression, finances and much more. We fully appreciate and acknowledge the scope of the damage that this treatment has had on everyone affected and are committed to fully investigating and recovering as much as we can.

If you or anyone you know might have been impacted by this treatment, call our experts today on 0333 004 4488

Fiona and Becky are here to listen and support you throughout what comes next. We know just how difficult it can be to come to terms with what has happened.

Pursuing a medical negligence claim may not only provide financial compensation but also hold medical professionals accountable for their actions.

Our team is accredited in medical negligence by the Law Society and members of the Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers (SCIL). As a firm, we’re recommended by The Times Best Law Firms 2025, The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.
