Fiona acts for clients that seek representation to resolve medical disputes against healthcare providers including GPs, NHS Trusts and private hospitals, dentists, pharmacists and care homes.
When it comes to serious personal injuries, Fiona acts on behalf of claimants who’ve suffered catastrophic or life-changing injuries caused by an accident at work, on the road, in a public space or on private property.
Dedicated to helping our clients access justice and rebuild their lives as quickly as possible, Fiona’s role requires a deep understanding of medical law and the ability to analyse medical records — the main source of evidence required to establish the high threshold in proving a case.
With a strong background in both areas, Fiona has advised in a wide range of complex cases. These include a claimant who lacked capacity in relation to a delay in diagnosis and treatment of a cyst in the brain, which caused cognitive impairment and compromised mobility; a claimant who suffered negligent post-operative treatment and care following kidney transplant surgery; and a mother whose baby was tragically stillborn as a result of negligent delay in treatment and care and also for the father who suffered psychological injury.
Before entering the legal sector, Fiona worked in a care setting as a caregiver. This experience gave her immense empathy towards vulnerable individuals — something that she carries with her today. She understands that most clients simply don’t want anyone else to suffer as they (or their loved ones) have — and that they want to seek accountability and justice.
Fiona started her legal career as a secretary before embarking on a law degree at The Open University, where she studied part-time while working full-time. She then became a paralegal, handling her own caseload in personal injury claims where she acted for defendants. When Fiona became a trainee solicitor, she took a seat in the healthcare team — acting on behalf of hospital Trusts and NHS Resolution. She qualified in 2010 and has exclusively practised medical negligence and personal injury law ever since — an area that she finds both challenging and fascinating.
Fiona joined us in May 2021 to set up and develop our medical negligence department. This has now extended into serious personal injury, including fatal accidents and injuries. She works across our Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire offices.
Fiona’s family and friends mean the world to her, and she really enjoys bringing them together for social occasions and meals. A love for the outdoors regularly finds Fiona on walking trips with her adorable labradors Max and Burt or exploring new places both across the country and abroad.
