Kelan is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in our construction team.
A contentious construction lawyer with a keen interest in alternative dispute resolution and litigation, Kelan is experienced in advising large insurance companies in relation to calls made on their bonds and guarantees. He also advises developers and contractors on disputed accounts including delay and defective works claims.
Kelan advises on both bespoke and standard form building contracts incorporating the FIDIC, JCT and NEC forms. He is experienced in all forms of dispute resolution forums including mediation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation.
Kelan trained in South Africa in a specialist construction and engineering law firm and qualified in March 2021 before moving to the UK to join a commercial law firm in January 2022. He has been part of the successful legal teams in, amongst others, the below cases:
- Euler Hermes SA (NV) -v- Mackay Stores Group Limited and Others [2022] EWHC 1918 (Comm).
- Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Africa (Pty) -v- Murray and Roberts Ltd and Another (1011/2019) [2020] ZASCA 110.
Detail orientated, Kelan investigates matters quickly and thoroughly to identify issues and provide practical guidance. He enjoys getting to know his clients and their businesses and working together to find the most cost effective and commercial way to resolve their dispute.
Where possible, Kelan enjoys visiting sites and getting firsthand experience of the issues that his clients are facing. He goes the extra mile to ensure the best possible outcome for his clients.
Kelan enjoys racket sports including badminton, squash and tennis. He is passionate about experiencing everything that life has to offer — from travelling and experiencing new cultures and cuisines to adrenaline-inducing activities like skydiving.
Kelan joined us in February 2024 and is based in our Manchester and Lancashire offices.
